Stephen Clay Kinzer

February 25, 1958 - October 1, 2021

Stephen Clay Kinzer, 63, of Piney Flats, passed away suddenly on Friday, October 1, 2021. Born in Durham, NC, Steve grew up in Bristol and was the son of Lovada Stephens Kinzer and the late William “W.R.” Kinzer, Jr. In addition to his father, Steve was preceded in death by his grandparents: Creed and Audrey Stephens, Ardelia and William R. Kinzer, Sr., and his nephew, Jacob Godsey. Steve retired from the Houston, TX police department after thirty years of service. He enjoyed listening to country music, attending the Rhythm & Roots Festival, & telling tales with his good friends who called themselves “The Dale Boyd Lunch Crew”– Louie Eleas, Tim White, Jeff Cassidy, Matt Austin, Greg White, and Ty Boomershine. Those left to cherish memories of Steve include his mother, Lovada Kinzer, his siblings: Rudy Kinzer (Laurie). Jane Godsey (Jeff), and Cheryl Brown (Carl); nieces and nephews: Katie Pickle (Gary), Shea Martin (Cody), and Kelsey Kinzer, Josh Godsey (Veronica), Audrey Thomas (Patrick), Jesse Godsey, Heath Perry, Hunter Perry (Ivy), and Paden King. A Celebration of Steve’s life will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor Jerry Jones officiating. The family will share memories with friends following the service.
