Click here to watch the service LIVE. Shawna Dianne Garrett went home to be with our Lord on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 with her sister, Maria, holding her hand. She had battled Peritoneal Cancer since March 2017. She is preceded in death by her mother, Janice Mize; father, Ray Webb; Uncle, Jim Oliver; and cousin, Anthony Oliver. She is survived by her children’s home mom, Diane Bennett; Granny, Joyce Bennett; Sisters, Maria Grindstaff, Anna McGee, and Michelle Parker; Best Friend who was as close a sister could be, Kristin Hickman and husband Lee Hickman, and brother, Johnnie Webb. Nieces, Abigail DeLoach Robinson and husband Jake, Lilly Hickman, Amber McGee, and Kimberly Parker. Nephews, Junior, Timothy, Brandon, and Adam McGee; Steven, Carman, and Landon Webb. Her step-mom, Debbie Webb; Aunt, Gayle Oliver; cousins, Mandy Oliver, Anissa “Buffy” Gates, Alicia “Shelly” Oliver, and Charlie Oliver. Brothers and Sisters of Tri-State Children’s Home too numerous to name. Shawna worked her way up from a fire watcher to Pipe Fitter Helper in the Nuclear Power Plant Construction business. She loved traveling from location to location and meeting new people. There were four things that brought her joy - good food, music, people, and animals. Shawna loved her pets, Zeus and Baby and Bluegrass music. She had a heart for the elderly and took pride in staying with her Granny. Shawna was a very special person. She loved everyone that she met, and everyone loved her. She was known for her generosity, loving heart, and beautiful smile. She never met a stranger, failed to help someone who was in need, or just take the time to chat. She loved nothing better than to sit and tell stories. She never got in a hurry for anyone. She had her own special way of doing things and a look that she gave you when you tried to suggest a different way. During her remission from cancer, she would go by and take flowers or donuts to the nurses and patients just to cheer them up on a difficult day. She met one special young lady, Cassie Fontana, who she fell in love with. Her faith was remarkable. She lived her testimony. She treated others the way that she wanted to be treated. Some of her final words were, “Make sure everyone knows how much I loved them and that I appreciate all that they did for me.” She prayed for the faith to believe that God would heal her. She asked God for relief and He answered her prayer right on time. Shawna did not live an easy life. Her childhood was filled with much pain, but she didn’t let that define her or keep her from being the gentle, loving person that she was. She loved those others considered unlovable. If she could say one final thing to those she loved most it would be to keep going. Life is hard, but you can do it. She never gave up on you. When I think about life without her, I am saddened. Shawna was the best of all of us. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Monday, November 9, 2020 at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home.
