June 10, 1936 - January 6, 2022
Robert “Bob” Eugene Allen, 85, passed away peacefully at his home in Bluff City, Tennessee, on January 6, 2022. “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21. Bob was born on June 10, 1936 in Trafalgar, IN to Roy and Marie Allen. At age 12 when his father tragically died, he began a mature life of serving others. After helping his mother raise his siblings and many foster children and run the family farm, he dedicated his life to Christian ministry and graduated in 1958 from Ozark Bible College. He met Carolyn while on his first international mission trip to Jamaica and Grand Cayman and they married in 1957. He and Carolyn worked together in established and new church ministries in Missouri, Indiana, Florida, and Tennessee. His last full-time ministry was serving as Church Relations Director at Milligan College from 1986-2000. After retirement, “Brother” Bob’s 67-year Kingdom career continued in local churches through interim ministries and volunteering at Appalachian Christian Village, Meals on Wheels, and Bristol Regional Medical Center. Bob was recognized for 7 years of service at BRMC, receiving the “Healing Hero Award”, and by his alma mater in 1998, receiving the Dean’s Outstanding Alumni award. He was a member of Poplar Ridge Christian Church, Piney Flats, TN. Bob’s adventurous spirit that brought him and Carolyn together continued after her death with ministerial service in Austria and Jordan and personal mentorship to missionaries overseas. He enjoyed traveling, hiking, and opening his home to family, friends, and strangers. His children continue to hear stories of his genuine kindness, sincerity, generosity, hospitality, mentorship and selflessness to all he encountered – fulfilling his call to serve God and others. Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Carolyn. He is survived by their children: Dr. Steve Allen and wife, Renee of Temple, TX; Sandy and husband, Brian Faidley of Blountville, TN; Shelley and husband Dr. Ken Greene of Camden, NC. Grandchildren include Chelsea Allen (JR) Pershall, Tad (Kaci) Allen, Dr. Samantha Allen (Chris) Bigott, Laura Faidley (Jeremy) Wainwright, Eric Faidley, Eden Greene (Joshua) Foote, Emily Greene (Reed) Smith, Elise Greene and Elaina Greene. Great-grandchildren include Carter, Robbie and Elizabeth Pershall; Rosemary, Rex, Raleigh, and Ruby Allen.
