Mary Ann Cumbie Thomas, age 80, of Bluff City, Tennessee, passed from this life on Tuesday, August 3, 2021. Just one week after celebrating her birthday while visiting her sisters and brothers in South Carolina, the Lord chose to move her dwelling place. Mary was born on July 27, 1941, in Williamsburg County, South Carolina. She worked in retail for most of her life helping many customers find the perfect gift. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Bristol, Virginia, for over forty years. Preceding her in death were her husband, William K. (Bill) Thomas after fifty-eight years of marriage; her mother, Bernice Inez Poston Cumbie and father, George H. Cumbie, Sr.; and brothers, George Cumbie, Jr. (Lila Lee), Bobby Cumbie, and Allen (Sonny) Cumbie. She was the mother of three daughters, June (John) Rosenbalm of Blountville, TN, Brenda (Allen) Jessee of Abingdon, VA, and Wendy (Rick) Shortt of Bristol, VA. She was Grandmama to ten grandchildren, Dr. Tabitha Rosenbalm, Tiffany (Argie) Rosenbalm Evans, Tia (Dr. Brian) Rosenbalm Jones, Joshua (Megan) Shortt, Seth (Meredith) Shortt, Martha (Tyler) Jessee Whitt, Joseph, Timmy, Bella, and Chris Jessee; five great-grandchildren, Emmalyn, and Ryker Evans, Maverick, and Maisley Shortt, and Charity Shortt. Her three sisters, Freda (Tommy) Wilson, Inez (Al) McGee, Catherine (Dally) Ward, and one brother, Phillip (Faye) Cumbie, and sister-in-laws, Deola Cumbie, and Lois Cumbie. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Victory Baptist Church, 11101 Island Road, Bristol, Virginia. The service will follow at 4:00 pm with Pastors Austin Cook and Larry Hall officiating. The graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday at Glenwood Cemetery in Bristol, Tennessee. Pallbearers will be John Rosenbalm, Allen, Joseph, and Timmy Jessee, Rick, Joshua, and Seth Shortt, and Argie Evans. Her honorary pallbearer, Dr. David Thompson, deserves due recognition for all the genuine care through the years.
