Gregory Michael Smith

September 13, 1954 - March 14, 2022

Gregory Michael Smith, 67, of Johnson City, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2022 at his residence. He was born in Bristol, TN and was the son of the late Allen Blaine and Helen Oliver Smith. In addition to his parents, Greg was preceded in death by his nephew, Steven Allen Nelson. Greg was an avid lover of the outdoors. He hiked on the Appalachian Trail for many years. He was a 1971 graduate of Tennessee High School. Greg had many talents. He was an excellent carpenter, brick layer, and artist. He was a former maintenance welder and machinist with Excide Technologies. Greg was a Christian and loved to serve the Lord. He found his love for God in being with nature. Greg was the type of person that would give you the shirt off his back. He had a huge heart for his family and friends and enjoyed sharing God’s word with everyone he met at his home in Johnson City. Those left to cherish memories of Greg include his sister, Debbie Smith Nelson and her husband Sandy, of Bluff City, brother, Wayne A. Smith and his wife Wanda, of Staunton, VA, special nephew and caregiver, Jack Douglas Nelson and his wife Maggie, nieces, Angie Smith Fitzgerald, and Kimberly Smith Shiflett (Chris), great nephews, Wesley and Kaleb Fitzgerald, great nieces, Breonnah Fitzgerald and Payton Shiflett, his loyal companion, Smokey. The family will celebrate Greg’s life at 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at Dennis Cove Recreation area in Hampton, TN. You may visit with the family at the home of Sandy and Debbie in Bluff City.
