Dorothy "Dot" Cooper Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Dorothy “Dot” Cooper, 86, of Bristol, VA, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2022 at the Ballad Hospice House in Bristol. She was the daughter of the late Bernard and Louise Clark Jeffries. In addition to her parents, Dot was preceded in death by her husband Hugh Cooper, her sister, Elizabeth Leslie, and beloved poodle Abby. She was born in Danville but Dot had lived in Bristol, VA since 1968. She was the owner of Abingdon Travel Agency and had a loyal following of clients. During her career, she arranged honeymoon trips, destination weddings, vacations and escorted many group trips. Dot was a member of State Street United Methodist Church, where she served as an officer in the Fidelis Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Jr. League of Bristol and the 1900 Literary Club. Dot had loved to travel, dance, play cards, and socialize with friends. She was a very strong woman, and despite battling cancer for 8 years, she always wanted to look her best when “stepping out”. A quote that she recently expressed often was, “What cannot be cured must be endured.” Those left to cherish memories of Dot include her daughters: Ann Cooper Rayburn and husband Noel, and Tami Cooper; her son, Hugh Gray Cooper, Jr., niece, Lynn Cohen and husband Steve, her nephews: Steve Cooper and wife Terry, Steve Leslie and wife Laura, Hampton Stuart Cooper, Jr.; and multitudes of friends. The family will celebrate Dot’s life during a memorial service at 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at State Street United Methodist Church with Pastor Laura Rasor officiating. A time of fellowship to share memories will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to either State Street UMC, 650 Valley Drive, Bristol, VA 24201, or Girls Inc, 885 Clinton Avenue, Bristol, VA 24201, or to the Animal Rescue organization of your choice.
