Dolly Mae Hicks, 92, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2019 at Christian Care Center of Bristol. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Lula Brown; husband, Dewey Hicks; and sons, William (Dee) Hicks and Larry Hicks. Dolly was born at Grandfather Mountain, NC. She left school at the age of 14 to help with family expenses. After moving to Bristol, she became a seamstress with Big Jack at the age of 16. While working at LC King, she worked full-time while raising four children. She finished her career in Customer Service at a retail fishing business. To her family and friends, she experienced the fruit of the Holy Spirit. She was a non-religious Christian who enjoyed fellowship with all she met. Dolly enjoyed puzzles, water painting, fishing, fishing, and more fishing, especially off the West Coast of Florida in the Gulf with friends. She is survived by her son, Thomas Cooper-Hicks and wife Carla of Marble Falls, TX; daughter, Judy Miller and husband Rick of Ocala, FL; granddaughter, Amy Ratcliff and husband Daniel of Kingsport, TN; grandson, Marty Jones of Blountville, TN; best friends, Becky Mullins and Howard Mayo; and the best neighbors ever, Tim and Jennifer Worley. In keeping with Dolly’s wishes, she will be cremated with no formal services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local animal shelter. The family would like to extend special thanks to Becky Mullins who became Dolly’s lifelong friend in only one year. After Dolly’s prayer for a friend, Becky knocked on the door the next morning. The family would also like to thank Howard Mayo, who was always there taking care of things Dolly couldn’t do, and neighbors, Tim and Jennifer Worley who were Dolly’s rock giving her a foundation of Agape love. Arrangements especially for Mrs. Hicks and her family have been made through Oakley-Cook Funeral Home & Crematory.
