Clifford “Cliff” Haynes Keesee, Sr., 84, of Bluff City passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at his residence. He was born in Bristol, VA and was the son of the late Estel Haynes Keesee and Mary “Cecil”Jackson Keesee. In addition to his parents, Cliff was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy “Dot” Stigall Keesee, son Clifford “Teddy” Keesee Jr., daughter Mitzi Keesee Miller and brother Dale Keesee. Master Breeder, Showman, Judge & Horseman, Cliff Keesee was Tennessee’s most complete professional horseman. He was nationally recognized for his expertise in breeding, judging, and showing. He bred, raised and showed Quarter Horses, Paint Horses, and Appaloosa Horses to many Futurity and World Championships. He made famous his favorite horse “Nicky Skip” who was an Honor Roll Champion and a great sire of champions. Cliff held Judge’s cards for AQHA, NCHA, PBAA, AHSA, NSBA and Appaloosa Horse Club. He judged AQHA shows from 1973-2006 that included all the major World Shows and Congress, as well as judging in six foreign countries. Cliff was elected AQHA Director in 1975 and was elevated to Director at Large in 1996. He served on the AQHA Stud Book and Registration Committee, the Hall of Fame Committee, and the Judges Committee. Recognized for providing opportunities for young people to be involved with American Quarter Horses, Cliff received the Merle Wood Humanitarian Award in 2003. Some of his proudest moments came when he was the TQHA Youth Director. He served as President of TQHA in 1983-1984. Cliff’s knowledge and reputation will live on through the many descendants of his favorite horse, “Nicky Skip” and the many cowboys and cowgirls who’s lives he touched spanning five decades. Cliff is survived by his siblings: Jim Keesee (Martha), Shirley Mikeal, Donna Keesee (Melanie West), Judy Keesee Brownlee (Barry); sister-in-law, Elizabeth Keesee, son-in-law, Tim Miller, several nieces and nephews. The family will greet friends to share memories from 11:00 AM until a celebration of Cliff’s life at 12:00 PM Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor Chad Johnson officiating. A committal service will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Bristol, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Due to the current Covid pandemic, the family requests that you bring and wear a mask to the services at the funeral home.
