A Legacy of Care
The History of Oakley-Cook Funeral Home: A story of tradition, innovation, and heartfelt service that began in 1923. From its humble beginnings in 1923 with Paul Cook's arrival in Bristol, Tennessee, to becoming a beacon of compassionate care and the home of Sullivan County's first crematory.
The Foundations
From Farm Boy to Funeral Director
Starting as an 11-year-old farm boy moving to Bristol, Paul Cook's journey in funeral service began under the guidance of his uncle at Huff and Campbell Funeral Home. His dedication led to the purchase and renaming of the business to Paul Cook Funeral Home in 1942.
Generational Shift
Passing the Torch
Sid Oakley joined Paul Cook Funeral Home as a teenager, marking the beginning of a new era. In 1978, Oakley purchased the funeral home, and following Paul Cook's passing in 1981, embarked on a journey to expand and modernize the firm, honoring Cook's legacy.
Oakley-Cook Emergence
New Beginnings and Innovations
In 1982, Sid and Joyce Oakley opened Oakley-Cook Funeral Home on Volunteer Parkway, transitioning from the original Pennsylvania Avenue location. A major milestone was achieved in 1993 with the installation of Bristol and Sullivan County's first crematory, emphasizing the firm's commitment to service and innovation.
